eero wifi extender
An eero wifi extender is another eero unit added to a network you already have. It is not a separate name and password. Phones roam between the units on their own. eero 6 Extender and eero Beacon join wirelessly. Other eero models can join wirelessly or with an Ethernet cable.
Add it in the app
The main eero must already be online. Open the eero app with the account that owns the network, go to Home, and tap the blue plus icon. Choose Add indoor eero, or Add outdoor eero if that is the model. Plug in the new unit and stay next to it. The light blinks white when it has power and blinks blue while the app looks for it over Bluetooth. You can scan the barcode on the device if the app asks. When the light is solid blue, it is ready to join.
Where to put it
Do not hide it in the dead room on the first try. Place it about halfway between an existing eero and the weak spot, in the open, off the floor, and away from the microwave, the TV, and large metal furniture. The app runs a placement test. Great means leave it. Could be better, or out of range, means move it closer to the other eero and test again. Then name the room so you can tell the units apart later.
After it is on the network
Your old Wi-Fi name and password stay the same. Devices that were already joined do not need a new password. Walk to the weak room and test internet speed. Compare it with a test next to the gateway. A useful extender narrows that gap. If the far room is still poor, the new unit is too far from the rest of the mesh, or a wired connection between units would do more than another wireless hop.
Back on your own network, test internet speed in the room that matters and compare download, upload, and jitter.
