how to connect alexa to wifi

Echo speakers do not have a screen for typing a long password. The Alexa app on your phone does that part. This is how to connect alexa to wifi the first time, and again after you change the home password.

First-time setup

Plug in the Echo and wait until the light ring turns orange, which means it is ready. Install the Alexa app, sign in, and tap Devices, then the plus icon, then Add Device. Pick Amazon Echo and the model shape that matches yours. Stay in the same room. The app uses Bluetooth to reach the speaker, then asks which Wi-Fi network to join.

Use a network the speaker can see

Many Echo models join 2.4 GHz only, or prefer it during setup. If your phone is on a 5 GHz name and the speaker never lists your network, turn on the 2.4 GHz name in the router or stand closer to it. Type the password in the app. When the light turns blue and then off, the speaker is online. Ask for the time. A spoken answer means the link works.

After a password change

The speaker will not guess the new password. In the Alexa app, open Devices, choose the Echo, then Device settings, and look for Update Wi-Fi or Change next to the network name. Follow the same prompts. If the speaker never appears, press and hold the Action button on top for about 15 seconds until the light turns orange, then add it again.

A speaker in a far room can connect and still answer slowly. Test internet speed beside it. If the phone is also slow there, move the router or add a mesh node. The Echo is not the broken piece.

Back on your own network, test internet speed in the room that matters and compare download, upload, and jitter.
